A significant discovery of new gas and oil reserves has been made in the Waziristan block of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mari Energies announced on Tuesday.
The discovery occurred during drilling operations at the Spanwam One well, which began on May 28, 2024. According to the statement from Mari Energies, the well is producing 12.96 million cubic feet of gas per day, alongside 20 barrels of crude oil.
Mari Energies, which holds a 55% stake, operates the Waziristan block as part of a joint venture with Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and OPI, who share the remaining equity.
The company emphasized that this discovery marks a significant contribution to Pakistan’s hydrocarbon resources and reaffirmed its commitment to continued exploration efforts. Furthermore, Mari Energies expressed gratitude for the support from national security agencies as well as federal and provincial governments, whose cooperation was vital in enabling the successful discovery.
