A pressure group, the Initiative for Good Leadership and Development, has called on President Bola Tinubu to prioritize the revival and completion of the northern oil exploration project at Kolmani Wells, located in Gombe and Bauchi states.
In a statement issued by the group’s public relations officer, Tasiu Muhammad Pantami, the group expressed concern over the abandonment of the project, which was a key promise made by President Tinubu during his campaign in the northern region. Pantami emphasized that the project holds significant potential to boost revenue for both federal and state governments, create jobs, and stimulate regional economic growth.
The statement also highlighted the strategic importance of the Kolmani Wells project in enhancing energy security, attracting investments, and fostering technological innovation within the region.
Pantami further called on the governments of Gombe and Bauchi states to engage in constructive dialogue with the federal government to ensure the project’s revival. He stressed that the northern region, which has been historically economically disadvantaged, deserves to have its oil resources developed to help address its growth challenges.
“Reviving the project will lead to oil production in the region, generating additional revenue for both the federal and state governments. These funds could be reinvested into infrastructure development, social welfare programs, and other vital projects, ultimately contributing to the region’s long-term economic advancement,” Pantami concluded.
