The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has unveiled a new initiative aimed at revolutionizing the monitoring and management of oil and gas production. The Production Monitoring Command Centre (PMCC), introduced by NNPC’s Upstream Investment Management Services, marks a significant step in enhancing operational efficiency across the sector.
The PMCC builds upon the success of NNPC’s Command and Control Centre, further strengthening the company’s ability to monitor production activities in real-time. In a statement, Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer at NNPC, explained that the initiative supports President Bola Tinubu’s policy to optimize industry efficiency and increase production levels.
According to Soneye, the PMCC serves as a centralized platform that tracks the movement of hydrocarbons from production sites to export terminals. This encompasses all activities under joint ventures and Production Sharing Contracts, offering a comprehensive overview of the sector’s performance. By consolidating real-time data from various operators, the PMCC allows for quick identification of anomalies, reduces unplanned disruptions, and ensures smooth operational continuity.
“The PMCC empowers stakeholders with actionable insights through advanced analytics, enhancing decision-making, planning, and resource allocation,” said Soneye. “This helps operators meet production targets while maintaining high operational standards and effective risk management.”
A key feature of the PMCC is its focus on predictive and preventive maintenance. By monitoring equipment performance and coordinating maintenance schedules, the system ensures the reliability and longevity of assets. It also fosters collaboration among industry stakeholders by providing a secure platform for data sharing and communication, promoting effective problem-solving and continuous improvement.
Soneye emphasized that the PMCC’s role in minimizing downtime and optimizing maintenance is crucial for driving production growth and increasing revenue.
Under the leadership of Mele Kyari, NNPC has raised production to 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd) and is working towards a target of 2 million bpd. The PMCC is a critical component in achieving this goal, by enhancing efficiency and expanding production capacity.
Operating 24/7, the PMCC is staffed by trained professionals and utilizes cloud-based solutions to ensure seamless communication between internal and external stakeholders. With direct links to the Industry-Wide Security Command and Control Centre, the system also enhances the security of Nigeria’s production operations.
As NNPC continues its modernization efforts, the PMCC is a testament to its commitment to innovation, excellence, and strengthening Nigeria’s position in the global energy market, ensuring long-term growth and profitability for all industry stakeholders.
